Recently, there have been users on social media sites, such as TikTok claiming that women are going to be required to join the draft for the U.S. military. However, there is no evidence to support this claim.

“There has been no decision to require females to register with Selective Service, or be subject to a future military draft,” said the agency responsible for draft records, the U.S. Selective Service System. “Selective Service continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25.”

According to the U.S. Selective Service System, there hasn’t been a large discussion surrounding this topic since January of 2016.

This rumor gained traction after a TikTok was posted on Oct. 12, 2023 by a user named John Robinson (@nationalmechanicsgroup). This rumor has since spread throughout TikTok and other social media sites.
Despite there being no evident policy surrounding cisgender women joining the draft, the U.S. draft has different policies regarding transgender people.

On, under the section listing those who must register for selective service, “Transgender people who were assigned male gender at birth,” was included.
