Dos Pueblos High School Economics classes will host their bi-annual Econ Fair, which features seniors’ econ product projects. The planning for the Econ Fair started over a month ago, with seniors creating products or services that will be available for purchase.
“[Students] prepare in choosing what product or service they want to sell,” DPHS economics teacher Rollie Woodward said. “They have to finance their product or service, so they have to think about cost and benefit … they have to do some research into how businesses operate and how they think on the margin and make decisions to make sure that they’re going to be profitable.”
To prepare, economics students started by creating prototypes and pitched their ideas to investors in a mock Shark Tank presentation earlier this week. Students attending the econ fair can expect a lot of “variety” in the items and services being provided, according to Woodward.

“There’s one group that took recycled spoons and turned them into rings, and they cut old spoons that they found in antique shops and formed them into rings,” Woodward said. “There’s a group that is like a Wheel of Fortune; a spinning wheel that has prizes and stuff that people can win. There’s a group that’s 3D printing Warhammer figurines … I’m excited to see how it turns out on the day. The ideas are always good in theory and even better [the] day of.”
The Econ Fair is open to all students and staff during lunch on Friday, May 22, and teachers are able to visit the fair during class time. Items or services at student-run booths will be priced based on tickets, which customers can purchase for one dollar each at the beginning of the fair. Tickets purchased with cash are recommended, but customers may also use checks or Venmo.
