Every spring, Earl Warren Showgrounds host the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show. This year’s theme was ‘Orchid escape.’ The event showcases art, floral design arrangements, and lots more for orchid lovers, also offering workshops, engaging lectures, and behind-the-scenes VIP tours. This year I was able to attend the show, photograph multiple orchids, buy from the various vendors, and go to a workshop. Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to next year’s event.

About the Contributor
Janella Knight (10) moved from Washington to California last year after spending the last five years there. She enjoyed how “tight” the community was in Washington. “My favorite part of Washington was the small town aspect,” Janella said. “Everyone knew each other, which can have its downsides, but I enjoyed Washington because the community was nice and I made a lot of friends.” While Janella enjoyed Washington, she says that she prefers California because of the “vibrant atmosphere” and the variety of activities. “I like to go down to State Street and explore the variety of shops and the farmers’ market on the weekends,” Janella said. “I also enjoy walking on the beach with my dog, Emerson.”
