End of year letter to our readers

The Charger Account

At the beginning of this year, we set out to inform and impact as many readers as we could within the school community. At the time, we didn’t exist to the public. We were a brand new publication and journalism class, and didn’t know what to expect or how wide our reach could be. But when we first heard that we had more than enough signups for the class to be offered both semesters, we were shocked.

There was a learning curve for all of us. We made mistakes; we figured things out as we went. We want to thank everyone who was a part of that process: our editors, our staff, our adviser, and you, our readers.

This summer, our website will be taking a break, and next year’s team will be preparing to deliver new content that we hope has value to you.

As a school publication, we have a unique purpose. We’ve also tried to deliver types of content that would be valuable to our readers. Content that helps you feel more connected to the people around you. Content that tells the stories of not just the events at DP, but also the people.

Realizing our publication’s goals is only made possible by our readers. We’ve expanded our reader base throughout the year, and although we think there’s room for improvement, we want to thank each of you who ever looked at the website or read an article or left a comment. Your engagement motivates us to continue doing what we are passionate about, and gives our work the impact we are always striving to have.

This year, we have published over 200 articles, and had over 1,000 readers. We’ve taken an idea we’ve had into functioning and impactful publication.

As this year comes to an end, our team is proud of everything we’ve accomplished. We’ve created a community of writers and readers which we hope will continue to grow, and although we have to say goodbye to our seniors, we’re optimistic about the future.

As editors-in-chief, Katie Rockenbach and I have cherished the process of growing this paper into what it is today. As Aspen Newhouse and Ava Canfield take over as editors-in-chief next year, we’re confident that the paper will be in good hands and we look forward to all they will accomplish.

Thank you once again to everyone who’s been part of The Charger Account’s journey, and we can’t wait to see what it will become in the years to come.

Never miss out on new articles!
