On Saturday, April 20, the Dos Pueblos Boys Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Sylmar High School to participate in the 34th annual Sylmar Varsity Invitational. The Chargers came out as the tournament champions with seven wins and zero losses.

DP competed in games against Canoga Park High School, University Prep High School, South Gate High School, and Jordan High School to qualify for a spot in the playoffs. They then beat Mendez High School and Marshall High School before winning 25-17 in the championship game against Venice High School.

“I’m proud of our players’ focus and competitiveness Saturday — they played very hard and utilized all opportunities given,” said DP Coach Ehren Hug.

DP Setter Wyatt Silver (11) had the most assists out of the entire team, with a total of 98 across all the games. His stats increased from the last tournament, where he only had 56 assists. Silver also had 13 kills, seven digs, five blocks, and two aces.

Micah Goss (12), a middle blocker for DP, acquired 39 kills, seven blocks, four digs, and three aces. This was Goss’s first tournament back on the team since recovering from an ankle-related injury that occurred while playing in a prior tournament.

The Chargers increased their overall record to 23-7, while their current league record still stands at 7-3.

Their next game will be a home game against Redondo Union on Wednesday, May 1.
