Maia Welz (9) has studied ballet at Westside Dance for over a decade, with her latest show being the studio’s annual “Nutcracker.” Through dance, Maia said she’s found a way to communicate with an audience without words. “I like getting to express myself without having to say anything,” Maia said. Outside of ballet, Maia’s identity has largely been shaped by the people she spends time with, whether that be her friends or family. “Sometimes people you spend time with a lot, you’ll adopt things that they do or they’ll teach you something new,” Maia said, “and that kind of changes who you are.”
