Over a thousand Dos Pueblos High School students watched the winter pep rally on Wednesday in the gym. The leadership class made posters that went along with the “Time Machine” theme and decorated the gym with streamers.
The classes each wore themed clothes based on their class colors. Seniors wore white and dressed like mummies, juniors wore blue to match with their theme of “Atlantis,” the sophomores wore black and dressed as pirates, and the freshman class dressed in gold and had the theme “Golden Age.”
Drumline and the varsity cheer team opened the pep rally. Leadership students then led the crowd in a competition to determine the loudest class. After that, varsity cheer performed a routine. Then, the Athletics Commissioners, Gus Miller (12) and Zachary Gesswein (12), introduced each of the winter sports teams.
“It was very hype,” Hannah Remmick (9) said. “All the presentations of the sports went well.”
After was the “Jingle Bell Jocks” performance, which was choreographed to the song “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” by NSYNC. The stunt team then performed and cleared the floor for the main event: a half court basketball scrimmage. The freshman and seniors played against each other, while the juniors and sophomore competed. The winners of those games were the seniors and sophomores, who then played each other in a final game in which the sophomores won.
“My favorite part was destroying the seniors in the basketball game,” Ruby Streatfield (10) said.
The winning sophomore team then played a team of teachers, who in the end, lost to the sophomores.
“I liked it a lot, I thought it was pretty fun, and all the different grades, it looked like they had a blast,” Lucas Hornbuckle (9) said.
