On Friday, April 12, Dos Pueblos Girls Softball traveled to Oxnard to compete for a Channel League game, and the team was able to walk away with the win of 5-1.

Neither of the teams were able to score in the first two innings but, in the third inning, Oxnard got three straight hits and scored a run. With only one out, Oxnard had runners on first and third and attempted a play but didn’t score. The Chargers were able to stop a runner resulting in the second out for Oxnard.

Kacey Hurley (10) threw the ball to third base and got Oxnard’s last runner out.

In the bottom half of the third inning with zero outs, the Chargers loaded up the bases, and Hurley got a single run to tie the game.

The fourth inning was led by Oxnard having two runners on first and second. However, Hurley threw out the runners from stealing third base.

For the Chargers, the fifth inning was the turning point of the game. Kaitlyn Ashby (11) broke the tie 1-1 and Zella Cassidy (9) led off with a single, followed by Georgia Wilson (12) gaining another single. In the last moments of the fifth inning, Brooklyn Hedricks (9) was able to score one more point by hitting the ball to center making the score 3-1.

In the sixth inning, Kylie Pearce (11) made close play after Anastasia Brunner (10) gained a single. Then, Cassidy was able to hit a shot to the right center letting Pearce score the Chargers their last point.

From losing on Wednesday, April 10, the softball team was able to come back from their loss and beat Oxnard.

“Oxnard made some adjustments,” Coach Mike Gerken said. “But we were focused.”
