Flag Football ends historical season with an invite to the LA Chargers Champions Tournament

On Oct. 27, the Dos Pueblos Flag Football Team competed in the Chargers Champions Tournament, which was sponsored by Oakley.

On Friday, they faced off against Los Alamitos High School and narrowly came out with the victory, winning 14-12. Gianna Nichols (12), the Chargers’ quarterback, demonstrated her skill set with 133 passing yards and two touchdown throws. Ruby Streatfield (9) and Brooklyn Hedricks (9) each contributed a touchdown reception. Katie Peterson (12) led in receptions with 65 receiving yards. Sterling Streatfield (10) led the ground attack with 37 rushing yards, showcasing her skill. Defensively, the Chargers were an unstoppable force, hauling in a total of three interceptions. Ce’Rina Llamas also supported defense with two quarterback hurries.

This win advanced them to the semi finals where they narrowly lost 22-18 to Mater Dei High School. Nichols was a standout player in the semi-final game, throwing for 114 yards and delivering three touchdown passes. She was a key player in Dos Pueblos’ offensive plays. The receiving corps, consisting of Maddy Jones (12), Ruby Streatfield, and Esme Mazurkiewicz (10), performed well, each contributing a touchdown reception. Peterson’s exceptional play added 59 receiving yards, further solidifying the team’s offensive skill. Sterling Streatfield played a strong ground game, accumulating 44 rushing yards during the contest.

“We’re definitely hoping to make it back next year,” said Sophia Pixley, linebacker and wide receiver on the DP Flag Football Team.

The tournament would mark the end of the inaugural season for the Girls Flag Football team, leaving them with a record of 14-3 overall and 6-1 in Channel League.
