In the early hours of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York’s Greenwich Village. Tensions escalated quickly as more and more people gathered to fight the police. Many were throwing bottles and eggs at the officers. Later, the first people to celebrate pride month chose June in order to pay homage to the famous Stonewall uprising.

1. Have a drag day
Drag and ballroom culture are tied greatly to the LGBTQIA+ community, as it is a safe place for queer expression and adopted many lost souls in the community. So why not having a drag day with your queer friends? I’d suggest getting in drag, doing lip sync performances, and watching Rupaul’s Drag Race together. It’ll be so much fun.

2. Donate to LGBTQIA+ organizations
Trevor Project, ACLU Drag Funds, Glaad, etc, are all the famous organizations that help support the LGBTQIA+ community, especially youth. These organizations create events and ads that raise awareness for the LGBTQIA+ community. They’re also the sponsors to many famous LGBTQIA+ events. So why not donate to these organizations? It doesn’t have to be a lot of money; any amount of money is appreciated.

3. Go to a pride parade
There are going to be a bunch of pride parades happening during Pride Month in many states and cities. Pride parades are colorful and fun, and there are going to be concerts with famous headliners. Pride parades are events where the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies come together to celebrate themselves. Come to a pride parade and try it out yourself—you’re going to love it. The LA pride parade is happening June 9th and June 10th with Megan Thee Stallion and Mariah Carey as headliners this year, so make sure to check it out.

4. Support your LGBTQIA+ friends
Supporting someone who is LGBTQIA+ is very easy. For example, just listen to what they have to say. Listen to their experiences of having a different sexuality or gender identity. You can also join LGBTQIA+ support groups, where you can make friends and learn about LGBTQIA+ issues.
