Santa Barbara Unified’s Ethnic Studies course was first introduced in the 2018-2019 school year. Since then it has expanded as a course and is now an official graduation requirement. The course can be taken either on its own, or combined with a standard English class in an English/Ethnic Studies course.

In order to celebrate the department’s success, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation SBTHP) will host a celebration event at the Alhecama Theater on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023.

The cuisine at the event will be catered by local Mexican restaurant, El Zarape. People attending can expect a taco bar, condiment bar, quesadilla station, chips and salsa, homemade guacamole, and other traditional Mexican dishes. The event will feature musical entertainment from SBHS’s DJ Miguel (aka Mr. Biseño). Transportation will be provided to and from the event. There will be two buses that will leave and return to DP and SM.

The completely free event will be open for all students, staff, and family members.
This is not the first time this event has been hosted, but the committee highly recommends anyone interested in the event to attend.
