The Varsity Boys Volleyball team competed at the Poway Best of the West Tournament, competing for two days, ultimately taking fifth place at the invitational.

“The coaches and I are so proud of their focus and grit this weekend. We learned a lot about ourselves and what we need to improve upon, but our passion for the game and competition was never in question,” coach Ehren Hug said.

Coach Hug said senior setter and captain Grant Hughes had a phenomenal tournament, showcasing his skills and determination on every play.

“He made some incredible sets from his knees or falling out of the court all the way across the court—he was getting after it. His fire for the competition is infectious and teammates were matching him,” Hug said.

Opposite hitter Micah Goss (11) led the team with 32 kills on the weekend.

Not far behind Goss were seniors Matthew Wilcox, a middle blocker, and outside hitter Ewan Richards.

“Both are doing a lot for this team and both had a great weekend from the service line,” he said.

Coach Hug said he was thrilled with their effort.

“We were hooting and hollering till the last whistle Saturday afternoon,” he said.
