The Dos Pueblos Girls Water Polo team celebrated their first home game with a 13-0 win over the Pacifica Tritons of Oxnard. The girls performed their first shut out of the season on December 14 before the break, which marked the girls’ second Channel League win. The girls remain undefeated in league play with a record of 2-0 after previously beating Rio Mesa on December 5 with a score of 22-2.
The Chargers came out with a strong start, leading with 10 goals within the first quarter of play. Pacifica held the second quarter scoreless, with the game remaining at 10-0 until halftime. The Chargers added two more goals in the third quarter and one last goal in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with a score of 13-0. Franki Court (10) led the Chargers offense, contributing five goals, while Athena Wigo (12) added three goals and Hanalora Abel (10) added two. Additionally, Ava Bennett (12), Emma Gilbert (12), and Addy Hammers (11) each added a goal a piece. Every Charger player contributed to the game and saw playing time in the match.
The Chargers held the Tritons to a scoreless game, with goalie Megan Garner (10) recording two blocks in the game alongside Emma who performed a major defensive effort, ending the game with five steals. “Everyone was pumped for the home opener,” Addy said. The high team energy contributed to the overall success of the game, she said. “It was a really exciting game. Overall, it was a really good way to test out some techniques we have been practicing.”
As the Chargers head into January, they will continue to navigate upcoming Channel League play. “We are beginning a huge month…we have four new valuable [San Marcos] transfers joining us this month, so we are navigating and practicing for that change. I am confident we will come back stronger than we started,” Addy concluded. The team is looking to take possession of the Channel League title by beating San Marcos, the CIF fifth ranked Division 1 team and Santa Barbara, also ranked in Division 1. The Chargers face crosstown rivals, the Santa Barbara Dons, January 10 and the San Marcos Royals, January 19.
The girls hope to continue their undefeated record after their 13-0 victory, while adding new players under the lead of new head coach Chris Parrish. Girls Water Polo will return home on January 7 against Oaks Christian.
