Ruby Rubio (11) reflects on her passion for horses and her family culture. Ruby grew up attending rodeos almost every weekend with her father in Bakersfield, and riding horses at the rodeo has become a safe home away from home where she can embrace her culture. “I basically grew up riding a horse. I think I knew how to ride a horse before I knew how to walk…I think the rodeos have really helped me be more proud of my Mexican culture,” Ruby said.
