Ama Elmziat, Reporter
Senior Ama Elmziat, a reporter here at The Charger Account, has a passion for environmental studies. She is the current Environmental Concerns Commissioner here at DP, attends the sustainable future club, and helps to run the beautify DP sessions. Her love for environmental studies started a few years ago upon her return to Santa Barbara after living in Dubai for a couple years. As a child, her and her family would visit Lake Los Carneros very often, feeding the ducks and walking around the lake. On her return from Dubai a few years later, she said “Before we would be able to just reach down, and like there were places where now you could just walk through. Those places before were covered in water…it was really sad seeing a place you associate with your childhood like that.”
After taking environmental science here at Dp her interest only grew. She is planning to major in environmental studies, specifically conservation and resource studies. Ama hopes to become an educator in this field because education around the topic was what got her interested and aware of the issues. She feels she could use The Charger Account as a way to educate and spread awareness on environmental issues. “It’s such a great thing to put effort into. I feel like when I put effort into it, it's kind of like giving back to my earth.”
