Dos Pueblos High School Theatre Company is presenting their new show, “ELF The Musical.” The show is being put on by the Advanced Theatre class and is completely student-run, from building the sets to choreographing the dances to directing the scenes.
The musical, with the book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin and the music by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, is generally based on the 2003 motion picture “Elf,” which starred Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf. Co-director Adora Bricher (12) gave a synopsis of the plot, saying that it was a “feel-good Christmas story.”
“[Buddy] goes to New York City to find his father, Walter Hobbs, who wants nothing to do with him and never knew he existed,” Bricher said. “And it’s just the story of them coming [together], father and son.”
The show is co-directed by Bricher and Santiago Frazier (12), with vocal directing by Tiffany Bebko (12) and choreography by Bee Melby (12). Bricher stated that this student-led show gives people “a lot of leadership opportunities [and] collaboration.”
“In the past, I feel like I’ve done a lot of things where I’m a leader on my own,” Bricher said. “It’s very different when having to work with other people who also have different creative opinions and trying to make all of our visions come together to create a good project … I think it’s been coming together great, and we’ve all gotten along really well and created something good.”
“ELF the Musical” has singing, dancing, and, according to Bricher, is a “feel-good” show.
“People should come see ‘ELF’ to support the theater community at Dos Pueblos,” Bricher said. “And also to have a good time with some fun laughs and Christmas magic in May.”
“ELF the Musical” has shows on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. General tickets are $10, student and senior tickets are $8, and DPHS Gold Card and kids 8 and under are $5.
