Three of Dos Pueblos High School’s sports teams are currently in the playoffs, including boys and girls lacrosse and boys tennis. Division two boys lacrosse, with its undefeated 20-0 record, advanced to the CIF semifinals last Wednesday with an 11-8 win over Huntington Beach High School at home. They played Oaks Christian High School last Saturday at 5 p.m, winning with a final score of 13-4. They are set to play in the CIF finals next Saturday against a currently undetermined opponent.
Finn McWeeney (11) attributed the team’s ongoing success to the team being relatively unchanged from last year.
“I think since we … only lost three seniors last year, we had more time to build on it,” McWeeny said.
The division two girls lacrosse team made it to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. They secured their spot with an 8-7 win against Glendale High School on May 6, which ended with a score in overtime by Linnea Clapinski (11). They played Oaks Christian High School last Friday at 5 p.m, which resulted in an 11-3 loss.
Team Captain Reagan Arnold (12) connected the team’s success to the resilience of the players.
“Everyone is so good at bringing each other up and motivating each other through highs and lows,” Arnold said. “And because of the positive energy … at practice and in games, we’re able to work together and utilize each other’s strengths to perform the best we can, which has ultimately brought us a lot of success in the back half of our season.”
The division four boys tennis are also in the playoffs, with an away game last Friday against Mayfair High School in Los Angeles, which resulted in an 11-7 win. Their previous game last Wednesday at home against Golden Valley High School resulted in a victory, with Aydin Ucer (12) and Kieran Stone (12) winning their sets, along with multiple other players.
