On Wednesday at 3 p.m., the Dos Pueblos High School Swim Team went head to head with the Santa Barbara High School Dons.
Dasha Dzreeza (10) competed in the 200 IM for girls varsity. She secured a win over Francesca Court (12) and Keira McAvoy (10) by several seconds.
“I was honestly feeling pretty tired [going into today],” Dzreeza said.

Talia Marshall (9), one of the only freshmen on the varsity swim team, echoed this theme of being tired. Nonetheless, she went on to make times qualifying for CIF in both the 200 yard and the 500 yard freestyle.
“Next week, we have channel league, and that’s going to be a pretty hard race to win,” Dzreeza said.
Gearing up for these challenging races and competitions, like CIF, some of the team has been “tapering.”
”[Tapering is where] we swim shorter distances or higher time intervals in practice, leading up to finals,” Nevaeh Gomez (11) said.

The swim meet was also the yearly Senior Day, where seniors are celebrated for all their hard work over the course of their high school career. Geno Genov (12) talked about his “senioritis” and his plans for after high school.
“[I’m going to] UC Santa Cruz for robotics,” Genov said.
In the end, the Chargers took the win, with the girls’ final score being 108 in opposition to the Dons with a 34 and the boys racking up 95 over SBHS’s 68. The season record now stands at 6-1 for girls and 5-2 for boys.
