The Clara Thomann Scholarship will assist selected Dos Pueblos High School students with the goal of pursuing post-secondary education in any field of science. The scholarship was created in memory of Thomann, a physics teacher at DPHS who passed away on December 23, 2024. Earlier this year, her family and friends came together with the Dos Pueblos High School Foundation to create a scholarship in her honor.
The Thomann Scholarship was originally presented to female students, but it has since been updated to include all genders. According to DPHS Foundation President Irene Milton, the foundation will decide the recipient with the input of Thomann’s loved ones.
The DPHS Foundation is a non-profit that was established in 2016, and the organization has been granting scholarships since 2022. The foundation’s goal is to provide support to DPHS via fundraising, networking with alumni, and connecting the school to the wider Goleta community.
“I believe that the school is extremely important, and the [Parent Teacher Student Association] is important,” Milton said. “I believe that the foundation is another critical component in helping to support the Dos Pueblos campus, students, and community.”
A questionnaire will be given to all seniors, which will allow them to apply for the Clara Thomann Scholarship and any other relevant scholarships provided by the DPHS Foundation.
