Simon Alexander (12) will be playing his first game on the Dos Pueblos football team against Hueneme on October 4th. Alexander was attending Carlsbad High School when his childhood best friend, Dos Pueblos High School student and running back Kaleb Williams (12), told him about DPHS. Alexander decided to look into transferring and after a lot of thought he decided to “pull the trigger on it” and made the choice to transfer.
Alexander fit the classification for a CIF sit out period, which means that he was not able to participate on the varsity team for the first couple of weeks due to his transfer. Alexander has been waiting to be able to play for DPHS for the past 5 games. He is getting ready to play in the game on Friday against Hueneme. At his old school he was sitting behind a “5 star quarterback” and says he was not was not able to play much.
Now that Alexander is attending DP he is going to try and play for a league title. He is also glad to be reunited with his childhood best friend Williams.
“At the end of the day I thought coming here we would have the chance to play for a league title,” Alexander said. “I’d get to move in with one of my best friends from childhood and I thought we’d have a pretty good season.”
It is unclear if Alexander will be attending DPHS for the full 2024-25 school year.
Williams says that the team is “enjoying” having Alexander as a part of their team. According to Williams the team has been very “welcoming” and “accepting” of Alexander as their new quarterback.
“The team has been very positive about it and he’s made a very good impression on everybody,” Willams said. “Everyone likes him so it’s been a huge impact on our team.”
Drew Shultz (11) was the former quarterback for the DPHS football team and is still going to stay as the backup. Despite this, Shultz feels good about Alexander being the quarterback and “knows how hard he works.”
He is looking forward to playing his past positions, running back and safety.
“I just realized that I have to switch my focus to other positions,” Shultz said.
Coach Pateras said Alexander has been “collaborative” with the offense coaches.
“His impact has been more, I think, a benefit for our coaches and also a benefit for the younger quarterbacks in terms of getting to be around him and engage and talk and learn and see football from his view,” Pateras said.
According to Pateras, the team is starting to get back to where their roster is supposed to be in terms of where the players fit.
“I feel like he’s having a good experience, and he’s going to help our team going through league, and we’re excited about where our program is and where our team is,” Pateras said. “So we’ve welcomed him in and made him feel at home.”
Stay tuned for Alexander’s first game on Friday, Oct. 4 at Hueneme at 7 p.m..
