On Thursday March 21, Dos Pueblos’s Boys Lacrosse team played their first game of Channel League away against Santa Barbara High School, and walked away with the win, 15-5.
The DP Chargers started off the game a little stagnant, but so did the Santa Barbara Dons. Neither team scored until there were nine minutes left in the first quarter, and Jack Finneran (11) scored the opening goal of the game.
In the following minutes of the game, Dos Pueblos’ Dan Finneran (11) would get the second goal on the board, coming off an assist from Roman Christou (11). Then, less than a minute later, Gus Miller (11) would also find the back of the net.
After a goal from Orion Prewarski (11), the Chargers were up 4-0, with only a few minutes remaining in the first quarter. Before the quarter was up, the Dons got a goal in, leaving the score going into the second quarter at 4-1, Chargers.
The second quarter for the Chargers was similar to their first quarter, filled with scored goals. The Chargers in the second quarter would score a total of 5 goals and extend their lead to 9-1 going into halftime.
After a goal from the Dons at the start of the third quarter, the Chargers were back to scoring. Jack Finneran scored again, in addition to Prewarski’s pair of goals in the final three minutes of the third quarter, which gave them a 12 point lead heading into the final quarter of play.
After the Dons scored midway through the fourth quarter, the Chargers once again went back to scoring. They scored three straight goals from Koa Birchim (9), Chase Carlson (11) and Jack Finneran.
These would be the final goals for the Chargers, but not the final ones for the game, where the Dons would get one more goal in, ending the game off with a win for the Chargers, and a score of 15-5.
While the offense scored plenty, the Defense was also a huge help in winning the game for the Chargers. The Chargers’ defense was anchored by Junior Captain Andrew Forsland (11), who picked up six ground balls.
Additionally, on defense Mitchell Maskrey (11) had five ground balls, and Andon Dexter (12) had four.
“It was a solid all around game to launch our league season”, said Coach Todd Garrett.
The Chargers next play versus San Luis Obispo on April 4th.
