The SBunified teacher work to contract lasted from Nov. 15 to Jan. 16, lasting two months. Teacher contracts have been under ongoing negotiation by Santa Barbara Teachers Association and SBunified School District in order to obtain higher salaries and benefits for teachers. Since Jan. 16 there have been two labor negotiation meetings.
The most recent meeting was Feb. 8, which resulted in “tentative agreements” reached on sick and bereavement leave and an “initial proposal” on health and welfare benefits as outlined on the district’s website.
There have been marches organized by SBTA, and student-led walkouts from Dos Pueblos High School, San Marcos High School, Santa Barbara High School, as well as Goleta Valley Junior High and La Colina Junior High in support of their teachers.
The next board meetings will be on Feb. 26, March 7, March 18, and April 3.
