Why did we have October 5th off?
Santa Barbara Unified School District students had no school on October 5. Students had no school on this day due to the many religious holidays in October. An email from the superintendent said that SBUSD’s goal is to create culturally responsive learning environments that acknowledge the diverse religious observances of their students and families throughout the school year. “To better serve our families from these backgrounds, a day at the beginning of the month was designated to help observe these holidays,” Superintendent Hilda Maldonado said.
